Sunday School Classes (as of 03/29/06)

Sunday School is from 9:30 – 10:30, in between our 2 worship services. The following classes are currently available.

Children & Youth

Infants through Preschoolers (up to pre-Kindergarten)

Teacher:

Paid Child Care Worker, Britni Marinelli, plus volunteers

Location:

Lower level, Child Care Room across from Disciple Hall

Description:

This room is staffed from 9:15 – 12:15.  A theme is chosen each month by the teacher.  The theme is shared through crafts, Bible stories and music.  Age appropriate toys are also available for free time play.   Infant beds and changing areas are also available.

 

 

Kindergarten & First Grade

Teachers:

Location:

Lower Level, back hallway next to Parlor

Description:

The children have free play at the beginning of class. The lesson usually consists of a Bible story with teaching and discussion. The children often do puzzles or crafts that relate to the lesson.

 

 

Second & Third Grades

Teachers:

Donna Stanley

Location:

Lower Level, beyond Child Care Room

Description:

The children play games with the teacher and fill in their attendance chart at the beginning of class. The lesson consists of a Bible story with teaching and discussion. Children are awarded tickets for listening, putting forth effort and participating, as well as for bringing their Bible and offering. At the end of class every child gets a prize.  This class also does occasional age appropriate service projects.

 

 

Fourth & Fifth Grades

Teachers:

John McCreight, Jr.

Location:

Main Level, across from office

Description:

The lesson consists of a Bible story with teaching and discussion and, occasionally, they discuss current events. Everyone takes turns reading from the Bible and the lesson. This class is involved in an on-going service project of writing letters to our home-bound members, and they frequently receive letters back.

 

 

Sixth, Seventh, Eighth Grades (Chi Rho)

Chi Rho room, lower level, back hallway across from Parlor

Description:

This class includes Bible study and discussion of current events, with an emphasis on how biblical lessons can apply to our every day life. Time is also allowed for sharing (penny for your thoughts!). Occasional skits may be prepared for presentation during the worship service.  Snacks are provided for the hungry middle schoolers!

 

 

Ninth, Tenth, Eleventh, Twelfth Grades (CYF)

Teachers:

Bill Knox and Bill Dowey Jr.

Location:

CYF Room, lower level, off of Fellowship Hall

Description:

This class is discussion oriented, focusing on pertinent current events and articles from a Christian view.

 

 

Adult Sunday School Classes

Open Circle

Teacher:

Dave Brandon

Location:

Lower Level, Parlor

Description:

This class is discussion based, covering contemporary issues linked to the Bible.  Everyone is welcome to share their opinions, and all are respected.  A wide range of ages are represented.

 

 

Homebuilders

Teacher:

Dale Palmer

Location:

Main Level, last classroom, end of the hall by the large stained glass window

Description:

This class uses a quarterly Bible study guide for their lessons. Most participants are older adults.

 

 

Upper Room

Teacher:

Barbara Faulkner

Location:

Main Level, Library

Description:

This class follows a basic program of Bible study with class participation. In addition to reading from the Bible each week, they sometimes use Barclay’s commentaries, books by Max Lucado or others. Time is also allowed for sharing personal events, in a supportive, loving environment. Most participants are older adults.

 

 

O.U.R. Class (Onward, Upward, Reverently)

Main Level, classroom next to stairs

Description:

This class begins with fellowship until around 9:50. After announcements concerning illnesses and activities the lesson begins at 10:00. The lessons usually consist of in-depth Bible study and encourage input from class members. The class sponsors fundraising activities and donates to many worthwhile projects within and outside the church.  A wide range of ages are represented.

 

 

Shepherd's Circle

Sanctuary, balcony level

Description:

Class discussions cover topics that relate to Christianity, family, leadership and stewardship.  Discussions are interactive and relevant to modern challenges and opportunities. Most participants have children, school-age and younger

Children’s Church-Hour Classes

Child Care

Teacher:

Paid Child Care Worker, Britni Marinelli, plus volunteers

Location:

Lower level, Child Care Room across from Disciple Hall

Description:

Child Care is available during the entire church-hour for infants through pre-school. We provide loving care, play, lessons and snacks. There are cribs, playpens, changing tables, a bathroom and age-appropriate toys. The children remain together for some activities and divide by age for other activities. When they divide they use the adjoining room.

 

 

Junior Church

OUR Classroom or Disciple Hall

Description:

Junior Church is available after the Children’s Sermon on the second, third and fourth Sundays for grades Kindergarten through fifth grade. The other one or two Sundays of the month the children stay in church to worship with their families. Junior Church is a worship service for children. They have an opportunity to talk about things they do during the week, as well as, hear a lesson, sing songs, give an offering and pray.
